Does this qualify as High Key? I think it probably does. In wetting my toes in the strobist world, I shot this tonight while screwing around with a new umbrella and light stand, which is actually placed directly behind me. Directly behind the camera is a large white wall which bounced light from the umbrella back onto my face. I'm excited for more.

Alligators fascinate me. 90 percent of the time they appear to be docile, or even statuesque. But when you do see one move, it can be downright scary how quick they are. Needless to say it's not safe to approach them in the wild, because like any animal they are unpredictable. That is why I really, really love Gatorland. Yes it has that old Florida cheesey factor, but it's also an excellent place to get up close, much closer than you would ever feel safe in the wild with these interesting creatures.

My first attempt at HDR with CS5. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range...in English you get more exposure detail in the shadows without blowing out the highlights. Like anything, it's good in moderation.

What a busy month it's been, but things are starting to slow down. I knew having a house would be a big time commitment, but damn...i feel like i've barely had a spare moment to shoot. This is the type of thing I've had a craving to shoot for awhile. I just love big machines. Maybe it's a boy thing. It's not often you have access to something like this unless you work construction, which I haven't for several years now. But when I did I used to always daydream about the photos I could be taking. Maybe theres a future for me shooting construction sites, and maybe even construction workers. Back in those days I didn't have a decent camera, but I really wish I did.

Shot this while canoeing down the Peace River in the southwest area of Central Florida. I learned that there is a lot of farming going on south of Central Florida, and to never eat at a Fat Boy's BBQ. The service was excellent...the food was horrible. Worst bbq i've ever had, along with their sad excuse for cole slaw, which was some kind of pureed mush. And no pulled pork or pulled chicken. I'm sorry, if neither of these things are on your menu, you are not running a legit bbq operation, and your head should be hung in shame.

Last week my employer gave me the opportunity to not go to work for a day and instead go walk around Daytona during bike week and take photos. Just to soak it in. And soak I did. Don't get me wrong, anyday spent in the sunshine instead of the office is a good day, but this was also people watching at it's finest. I saw plenty of typical biker types, and a few not so typical types, such as the two men carrying gigantic burmese pythons or the two fellows sporting large swastikas that I attempted to avoid eye contact with. I saw old bikes, new bikes, and bikes so customized it blew my mind. I also ate the most epic hot dog I've ever tasted. It was a great day.

When I run it's usually early in the morning. Its usually at this time, mid run, that I kick myself for leaving my camera at my apartment. (Because of poor city planning, I drive to nearby celebration to run) You see it's always early in the morning that it's foggy, and the sunlight does crazy things. But on this day...I walked out my front door, and immediately turned around to grab my camera. As it worked out, by the time I finished my run the sun was breaking through the thick morning fog and creating some interesting atmosphere. Hence the Kingdom of Sir Snapsalot (the alligator) in all it's sunrisey glory.

This is a photo of Caitlins father and sister, shot during our visit to Blue Springs State Park in Florida. Blue Springs maintains a constant 72 degrees, so when the water temp drops elsewhere, many Manatees come to the spring to stay warm. With Central Florida's 20-30 degree weather, there were lots of Manatees that day.

Space Suit worn by astronaut Alan Shepard.

On May 5, 1961, Shepard piloted the Freedom 7 mission and became the second person, and the first American, to travel into space. On his successful return to Earth, Shepard was celebrated as a national hero, honored with parades in Washington, New York and Los Angeles and meeting President John F. Kennedy.

At age 47, and the oldest astronaut in the program, Shepard made his second space flight as commander of Apollo 14, January 31–February 9, 1971, America's third successful lunar landing mission. Shepard piloted his Lunar Module Antares to the most accurate landing of the entire Apollo program. This was the first mission to successfully broadcast color television pictures from the surface of the Moon, using the vidicon tube. (The color camera on Apollo 12 provided a few brief moments of color telecasting before it was inadvertently pointed at the sun, effectively ending its usefulness.) While on the Moon, Shepard played golf with a Wilson six-iron head attached to a lunar sample scoop handle [1]. Despite thick gloves and a stiff spacesuit which forced him to swing the club with one hand only, Shepard struck two golf balls with a six iron, driving the second, as he jokingly put it, "miles and miles and miles."[6]

It amazes me that we can send people up and out of our atmosphere into the vacuum of space, and we've been doing it since the 60's.
